I have found that launching the applications through bash or Applescript partially works: # Bash In Windows I can append the arguments to the shortcut properties, but since Macs don't use shortcut per se and run the applications directly, this isn't possible. $ /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -P profilename -no-remote I've been doing this for a long time and know that errors occur when copying/moving files to different location using different methods and not being reported as unsucsessful, again just one of the reasons checksums are published. Is there any easy way to append command line arguments to an application on a Mac? For example, to run Opera in kiosk mode or to use a different profile in Firefox, I can type $ /Applications/Opera.app/Contents/MacOS/Opera -kioskmode There are good reasons why checksums are published and it's not just to verify it one time on the system it was originally downloaded to. It's not that I didn't believe you had already validated it but in my professional opinion files like this get verified on every system the file is copied/moved to and directly before it's executed. This goes to show that asking and wanting explicit and specific information is a correct and proper way to professionally diagnose/troubleshoot technical computer issues whether or not you want to agree! I know you had said in the OP you checked the MD5 checksum however I asked for the ls output so as to independently verify that the file was okay at least to the point it was the size it was susposed to be, like a double verification if you will. Well it's a shame you pissed me off yesterday because had you not, I would have looked at the output of the ls command I asked for and would have told you that is was corrupt because the VMware-Workstation-Full-8.0.4-744019.x86_64.bundle is 341672831 bytes not the 341668235 your output showed. This time i checked the md5 ON the system i want to install and it was correct. So what i did was download 8.0.0 to try it again. So it looks like that i became corrupted when i uploaded it to my root server. I did the MD5 sum of the file before i uploaded it to the server. the second dd command failed and said it is unable to decompress because the archive is invalid. Yesterday i tried the script inside line by line. should output " 797" (plus a warning about trailing garbage).Īnd interestingly, the trailing garbage warning looks like it would cause the whole operation to fail if the " pipefail" shell opt is set. Here's some stepwise troubleshooting (for which you do not need to be root, and it would be safest to run as a regular user):ĭd if=/VMware-Workstation-Full-8.0.4-744019.x86_64.bundle ibs=15131 obs=1024 skip=1 | wc -c The directory would have been created with a unique name by the mktemp -d command a few lines prior, and is deleted by the on_exit handler (see the very last line in the sh -x log you posted).
